5 Tips on How to Promote Productivity When Working Online

Often when people think about remote work, they envision a euphoria where you can work in your sweatpants and have an endless supply of snacks. While working from home does come with these fun elements, it also comes with its fair share of distractions. Staying productive while working remotely can be hard and even the most dedicated employees can get distracted. But what if we told you there was a way that you as a leader can help employees be more productive when working online? Keep reading as we delve into 5 tips that can help you promote productivity amongst your remote workers.

Tip #1: Encourage a work-life balance

By promoting a healthy work-life balance, you can help remote employees stay motivated and focused. This can also help to decrease employee burnout, which results in lower overall productivity. A great way to foster this balance is to set up clear working hours and encourage employees to take breaks with healthy habits such as exercise or mindfulness.

Tip #2: Avoid micromanaging

Although it may be tempting to closely monitor remote employees, a remote work environment requires trust. By placing confidence in your employees, you increase efficiency because employees don’t need to constantly check in with you to proceed with projects. By taking a step back to trust employees and their abilities, you can also create a more positive work culture.

Tip #3: Learn to trust your team

There’s that trust again. Regardless of if employees are in the office or not, trust is a crucial part of any successful team. A great way to build trust between you and your employees is to have regular check-ins, maintain transparent communication and ask for feedback.

Tip #4: Embrace flexibility

One of the best perks of remote work is flexibility. Utilize this by providing your team with flexible working hours and allowing them to work from different locations. This can work to improve productivity because employees can work around their own schedules. Being adaptable to employees’ needs also shows your team that they are valued and respected.

Although managing remote employees and ensuring productivity can seem like a scary thing; by keeping these tips in mind you can create a positive and productive remote workspace.
